This year, following a global pandemic, the Transitions in the Global South research network organised a webinar series on the topic of “Covid-19 and transitions in the Global South”. What followed was a set of seven monthly webinars between June and December 2020. After an introductory webinar in June 2020, featuring speakers like Prof. Mark Swilling, Prof. Joyashree Roy and Prof. Adriana Marotti de Mello, the following six thematic webinars covered 1) Rising inequality in times of a pandemic, 2) Changing social practices in times of a pandemic, 3) Local experimentation and innovations in times of a pandemic, 4) Role of State and local/global public institutions in times of a pandemic 5) Impact on and shifts in informal economy in times of a pandemic and 6) Global comparative policy learning in times of a pandemic. Some of TIPC researchers and practitioners such as Dr. Wilhelmina Quaye, Dr. Blanche Ting และ Paulina Terraras were some of the guest panelists in the series. The webinars were well attended with up to 100 attendees. The webinar series was co-hosted by a number of enthusiastic scholars – ดร.พิพัชยี โฆษะ, Katharina Schiller, Dr. Adriana Mello, Rafael Carvalho Machado, Suci Lestari Yuana, Maria Casal and Mark Purdon.

On the final webinar on 2nd December 2020, the team presented “highlights of the series” featuring key learnings from each of the webinars. This can now be viewed ที่นี่. Following a successful webinar series, we are planning to edit a special issue in a journal based in the Global South – REGE Revista de Gestão (open access, free of APC, indexed by Web of Science journal published by the University of São Paulo – Brazil). If you are pursuing research on Covid-19 and any of the topics listed above, please submit a paper (no more than 8000 words) by 31เซนต์ March 2021.
Transitions in the Global South is an emerging network of interdisciplinary scholars dedicated to investigating challenges and opportunities of sustainability transitions in the countries that are located in the Global South, and are often associated with lower economic development, high inequality, poverty and people experiencing severe consequences of climate change, particularly using a systemic approach to addressing sustainability. As of December 2nd, Transitions in the Global South emailing list has more than 300 subscribed members.
