2020 年 TIPC 团队网络研讨会系列
The Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges is organising a webinar series where students from around the globe, together with UU experts, reflect on the global nature of the COVID-19 crisis and the transformative implications for our societies, including economic, social, cultural, political, and environmental.
The first webinar will begin with introductory reflections from, 约翰·肖特, TIPC founder and academic director, and Laura Pereira, before moving on to the student panel discussion.
Transformative implications
In late December 2019 the world learned of a new virus: COVID-19. Three months later much of the world was in lockdown. States of emergencies were called, borders were closed, air traffic grinded to a halt, and economic activity stopped in its tracks. Social distancing became a new normal with penalties to those who violate it.
Will COVID-19 have transformative longer term implications on our societies? Ranging from the way in which we approach global health systems, develop pathways to sustainability, foster institutions for open societies, and ensure equitable opportunities for today’s youth.
Each webinar will explore a different angle. Students from different countries around the globe will meet virtually to share their perspectives and discuss these with experts from Utrecht University.
Webinar 1: May 26, 2020 13:30-14:30
The first webinar ‘COVID 19-Opportunity or Risk for a Sustainability Transition of Our Economies’ explores the double-edged sword that this crisis brings, between risk and opportunity, between squeezed fiscal space and new norms and more sustainable ways of organizing our societies. Which forces will prevail? Are there regional differences? What can students, other citizens, companies, and governments do to seize the current crisis response and accelerate the transitions?
First, Utrecht University experts 约翰·肖特 和 Laura Pereira will reflect on these questions. Afterwards, students from all over the world will speak on this issue in a panel. In the meantime, you can ask your questions to the UU experts and the students via our chat.
